Paul Day and the Filestream team have had an eventful 2023!

Christmas has been and gone and it’s almost time for the New Year! Most businesses are using this time between Christmas and New Year to make their plans for Quarter 1 of 2024.

Today we’re talking to Paul Day, Technical Director of the award-winning document management system Filestream about the company plans going forward.

What does December mean for your business?
December has been really busy for Filestream. We’ve gained new customers and that mean we have had to set up their new systems ready for them to start getting secure documents. Behind the scenes we’ve been preparing for exciting new project plans for the first quarter of 2024.

Give us a flavour of your highlights of 2023.
There have been a lot of highlights for 2023 so it’s really hard to choose just five:

  • We’ve had some fabulous new websites created, giving us a fresher look and they’re just brilliant.
  • Our client base has grown and that’s been exciting as the industries we support are hugely varied which has led to a lot of learning experiences.
  • Our cloud business has grown massively in the last twelve months,
  • We won the low-code/no-code Document Manager Magazine award again. We first won it in 2021, we became runner up in 2022 and then won again this year.

Would you like to thank anyone who has been especially helpful to you throughout this year?
I have loads of people I would like to thank but I’ve managed to nail it down to:

The Filestream team for being so brilliant this year! Your dedication to the company is greatly appreciated.
2. All of our clients for choosing to use us to look after your document security needs.
3. Fiona Scott of Scott Media for supporting us with all of our PR needs. You may have noticed we've had a lot more stories in the media over the last almost 2 years and it's all down to the genius that is Fiona!
4. Alec Jones-Hall and everyone at the Great British Expos including the friends we've made along the way who have also exhibited at the shows.
5. All of our suppliers who have helped us this year on our website, our social media and so many more: Hannah Edwards of Empowered VA Services, Rob Curtis of The Pursuit Agency and Danielle and Kyle Holmes and the team at Black Nova Designs.

Have you done anything for charity or your community this year?
As a company we have sponsored the Great British Business and Community Awards which helps to raise money for a wonderful charity called Cherishers. Nominations are open until December 31st for this years Thames Valley and Southwest Awards.

Personally, I dress as Father Christmas every December, and it takes up all of my free time. I go to Rainbows groups, Scouts groups, charities and sometimes even the grotto at the local Tesco. I never take a fee and always ask for them to donate any money that they wanted to give me to charity.

What has been your proudest moment in 2023?
For the company it has to be winning the Low Code/No Code award in the Document Manager Magazine Awards. Because we had already won it in 2021 and as runner up in 2022, we didn’t think we’d be considered for this category. We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us. Your votes meant a lot to us.

Personally, it was taking part in the first ever London Skyscraper Challenge. I was supposed to be doing the Tower Abseil Challenge but due to unforeseen circumstances it became the Tower Run. It was in support of the charity Tommy’s and I managed to raise a lot more than I set out to so I’d like to thank everyone for their donations and words of encouragement.

If you could choose three words to sum up 2023, what would they be and why?
Eventful – We’ve had a lot of stuff happening this year – expos, awards, new clients etc. It’s been a wonderful experience.
Growth – The business has grown massively which has been wonderful.
Collaboration – There was a lot of collaboration happening behind the scenes this year as we had website revamps, social media support and PR support to help us grow the business.
