REVIEW: Sunday Lunch at The Palm Bar & Restaurant

If you're looking for a Sunday Lunch experience with superb food and beautiful surroundings then The Palm Bar and Restaurant is the perfect choice.

Lydiard Park is a beautiful historic estate on the western edge of Swindon, with the Palladian House, Church, Walled Garden. The recently renovated hotel, restaurant and conference centre are set in 260 acres of parkland.

The restaurant is stunning as it sits on a beautiful tree lined drive surrounded by nature. The restaurant has plenty of onsite parking, only a short minute walk away.

It boasts a modern, contemporary feel. The decor is perfectly suited as an extension to the estate with beautiful foliage, a relaxing colour scheme and a stunning glass roof giving an air of elegance and comfort for all seasons.

The staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful all the way through our lunch.

The Palm Restaurant and Bar presents a delightful Sunday lunch menu alongside a diverse array of homemade favourites. From burgers, soups, and salads to small plates, light bites, tapas, desserts, and afternoon tea, there's something to satisfy every taste, budget, and dietary preference. Additionally, they offer a varied menu for younger guests, ensuring a comprehensive dining experience for all.

The Sunday lunch menu is available in four dining sessions from 12pm to 7.30pm as the restaurant offers an intimate feel allowing the servers and the chef to give their full attention which is clearly displayed in the quality of the food.

To begin, we indulged in the mushroom arancini and a bread board accompanied by olives, oil, and balsamic vinegar, complemented by a glass of Pinot Grigio. The starters were impressively ample and presented with exquisite care. The well-curated wine menu caters to diverse price ranges, palates, and perfect pairings, ensuring a delightful selection for all preferences.

As our main courses, we savoured a flawlessly prepared roasted ribeye paired with horseradish sauce, and a succulent chicken supreme served alongside bread sauce. Both dishes were accompanied by crispy roasted potatoes, seasoned roasted carrots and parsnips, roasted garlic, tenderstem broccoli, a crispy homemade Yorkshire pudding, and a sumptuous gravy.

A lovely selection of side dishes to accompany are also available including the most fabulous pigs in blankets, thick and rich cauliflower cheese and sweet and tangy braised red cabbage.

The presentation was lovely and the portions are lavishly satisfying.

The dessert menu is sinfully delicious with favourites such as sticky toffee pudding, burnt basque cheesecake and tiramisu.

We opted for the sharing cheese board which was served beautifully with grapes, celery, crackers and red onion chutney. Also, the sticky toffee pudding, which featured a chocolate fondant brimming with richness and decadence.

The Palm Restaurant and Bar brings a fantastic new dimension to Swindon. It's more than just a dining spot; it's an unforgettable, flavourful, and thoroughly enjoyable experience. We're eagerly looking forward to our return visit very soon.
