Afternoon Tea in Swindon

REVIEW: Indian High Tea at The Doubletree by Hilton

On Tuesday 31st January me and the team had the pleasure of reviewing Doubletree by Hilton’s new Indian High Tea, which is a take on the traditional English Afternoon tea.

As soon as we arrived, we were swiftly escorted to the beautiful restaurant where the table was set with a gorgeous Indian table runner and traditional Indian teapot.

Shortly after we sat down, we were then greeted by the waitress who gave us a box of Neitiv Coconut Flower Lager and glasses of Chai Tea. The Coconut Flower Beer is brewed and bottled in the UK, integrating a unique recipe with Coconut Flower Drops, Barley, and Oats.

They’re ethically sourced and are a healthier alternative to normal ale/lager.

The Coconut Flower Lager had a wonderfully sweet flavour and is incredibly low in calories. There are 3 different lagers to choose from, Freedom, Hope and Love.

Soon after our incredibly attentive waitress arrived with a mouth-watering array of Indian High Tea components. We had the pleasure of meeting the incredible chef who in great detail described what we were about to tuck into.

On the top tier was a divine selection of delicate sandwiches, from Chicken Tikka, Masala Egg, Cucumber & Chutney to a wonderful Chilli Cheese Toastie. We were off to an amazing start, these had a variety of powerful flavours, from a little bit of spice with the Chicken Tikka to a sweet and refreshing taste with the Cucumber and Chutney sandwich.

If you’re someone who loves a bit of spice then the Chilli Cheese Toastie will be right up your street. It had a slight kick to it, so paired beautifully with the mint yoghurt and was complimented by the sweet Coconut Lager.

The second tier had a delicious array of hot savoury treats, from Chicken Patties, Mildly Spiced Chicken Filling Cooked in Puff Pastry, Vada Pav, Bombay Street Food Deep Fried Potato Dumpling served in a bun, Vegetable Samosa, and an Onion Pakora.

The Deep Fried Potato Dumpling served in a bun was delightful, at first the spices felt mild, but once I’d taken more bites the level of spice built up. There were refreshing flavours of lime and coriander which mixed with an array of spices got my tastebuds tingling.

The Mildly Spiced Chicken Filling Cooked in Puff Pastry paired brilliantly with the sweet, thick Tamarin sauce. The Vegetable Samosa was also a massive hit, it was deliciously light and crunchy.

Lastly, the final tier held a selection of unusual sweet treats, from Nankhatai, Indian Shortbread, Carrot Halva and a Tutti Frutti Sponge Cake. The Carrot Pudding was the show stopper, it had everyone talking, and it was so unusual but incredibly moreish. Sweet, light, and fluffy, it was the perfect sweet treat.

The Indian High Tea was beautiful, I’d highly recommend it! This would make the perfect gift for Mother’s day or as a birthday present, you just need to pre-book. The Indian High Tea is £17.95pp or £22.95 with a bottle of Coconut Flower Larger.
