MrBeast Burger Review: 'An over-hyped under-cooked experience'

MrBeast Burger has become the latest addition to Swindon's fast-food scene as one of the World's biggest Youtubers Mr Beast opened up a branch of his famous burger outlet in Swindon. But does the food really live up to the hype? Total Swindon's food blogger recently popped down to find out.

With over 90 million subscribers on YouTube and earning over $50 Million from the online video platform last year, Jimmy Donaldson aka Mr Beast set up his first Mr Beast Burger outlet in 2020 to help support local restaurants in America to earn extra income during the Covid pandemic.

Since then MrBeast Burger has become one of America's biggest fast-food chains with over 600 locations in 45 states in the USA. Now Swindon has been chosen as one of the UK's flagship locations with MrBeast Burger opening at the Village Hotel in Shaw Ridge.

The idea is simple, MrBeast Burger opens in an existing restaurant and simply becomes an alternative menu for the restaurant to sell therefore helping each venue to earn more income. But whilst simple enough to understand, our visit to Shaw made it clear that this process needs refining.

Firstly, it was incredibly confusing to order. There is very little signposting when you step foot in the hotel and all orders must be placed online either through the MrBeast Burger website or UBER Eats. The problem with that is that the online opening times don't seem to correlate the restaurant with online saying orders open from 12 but the Village Hotel restaurant told us they weren't accepting offers until 3.30pm.

Now onto the food. Despite all the fantastic eye-catching branding that really does excite. The food was perhaps one of the worst fast-food experiences I have had.

I ordered the Beast Style burger (smashed beef patties, American cheese, pickles, onion, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard), and Beast Style Fries (seasoned crinkle fries, onions, American cheese, pickles, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard) and was incredibly excited to tuck into what I was expecting to be a proper American burger.

Everyone loves loaded fries but these were easier to throw away than they were to eat. The crinkle fries were undercooked and still hard when you bit into them whilst the toppings were cold and represented a congealed mess.

This was a poor start but I thought the burger would surely be amazing, I mean America is known for creating mouth-watering juicy burgers right?! Now the large soft roll it was served on was nice, but that's really as good as it gets.

The smashed beef patties were messy to eat and burnt in places with the toppings mushy and lazily slopped on top. A couple of bites was all that I felt like eating before tossing it aside and the majority of the contents of what was an eagerly-anticipated meal into the bin.

Costing over £12 for my meal (50p extra for lettuce) this was a fast-food experienced that promised a lot given the hype around MrBeast Burger but delivered very little. If you're kids fancy trying the YouTube sensations food then by all means give it a try for yourself but be prepared to pay over the odds for a burger that you won't enjoy.
