Your Total Guide To Business

Jan P de Jonge from People Business Psychology Ltd - Summer August Q&A 2021

It's August and the height of summer although the weather may not always reflect that. Often in business it can be a slower month as children are not at school, parents take time off and many people take a break. Will this year be as different as last year? Time will tell.

We've been talking to various business owners about their summer and autumn plans and today we're talking to  Jan P de Jonge, founder of People Business Psychology Ltd. Jan and his associates use psychology insights and methods to help organisations flourish – as well as the people in them.

How is August looking in your business?

Although usually August is holiday for many, it’s when we start to focus on busy times for organisations that need support in their hiring decisions for new staff for the new season after the summer break. Never a dull moment!

What are your personal plans for this month?

At home, we don't feel ready for freely visiting places and staying away from work too much.

When we can, we want to explore the UK more than we would have done in the past – when pre-Covid we would have wanted to go abroad for a break.

The Olympics – Tokyo 2020 – have finished and the Paralympics are almost upon us. Have you seen anything which touched or inspired you?

I admire the achievements of the amazing British Olympic swimmers who have gathered many medals; I love swimming – even if I don’t do it often enough.

I look forward to seeing how our Paralympians do too - and good luck to our own Wiltshire swimmer Stephanie Millward MBE.

Did you know last Saturday was World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself?

Although having and developing an enterprising approach is something we measure and help others to understand better, I avoid referring to myself as an entrepreneur.

At times, I find it sounds presumptuous when people refer to themselves using that term.

Can you name one business you’d like to give a summer shout out to?

My accountant Arun Letchumanan at Charlton Baker Accountants in Devizes issued a positive reference the other day for me – this helped me secure some exciting international consulting work on behalf of ‘UKGOV’. Thank you, Arun!

As we move further through the pandemic, how are you feeling about the future of business in general in August 2021?

Many businesses will find a way to bounce back after (and some are still enduring) very difficult times. Covid19, Brexit and climate change have all created a perfect, horrible storm. The latter two are man-made, too. That’s a worry.

Have you got any events planned for the autumn you’d like to shout about – either that you are running or attending?

We’re still working on developing our own leadership assessment tool. Covid19 has caused delay in its development – some of which is by our partners in India. We’re hoping to publish news about it soon; we might create an event around it.

And finally, August 16 is National Tell a Joke Day? Can you tell us a joke and raise a laugh?

Can I be political here? Better not!!!
