With National Apprenticeship week nearly here, we've been chatting to some of BMW's young apprentices all about the scheme and how it works for them.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
I prefer to be hands on than being sat in a class room. Also it was a family influence as my father has worked at BMW for a long number of year and he has seen his success.
How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?
I have always had engineering as a hobby so has always wanted to do it as a career.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
Gaining all the skills that you need for in the workplace, working in a number of different areas within the company and getting paid while you learn.
What are you doing to develop within your role and company?
I am currently at college gaining all the theory and practical needs for the workplace.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
I struggled at the start with Maths but since having support at college I feel I have a much better understanding.
How do you spend your free time?
I like racing cars, football and enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?
I found that there was a huge difference with the amount of work at college than there was at school.
What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person?
I feel have a made a good group of friends and my knowledge of engineering in general has become a lot more in-depth.
What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship?
Think about what you want to do in the future and work out what career you want.
What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?
I will have my Level 3 qualification and a good network of friends to be able to start my career at BMW.
