Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university? 

I decided to choose an apprenticeship over university as I prefer to be hands on rather than being sat in a class room. I also liked the thought of being paid while I learn.

 

How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do? 

I chose to do engineering as my dad and grandad had both worked for a big engineering company and I always enjoyed listening to the stories they used to tell me. I have always had an interest in engineering from when I was young.

 

What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship? 

The benefits are being paid while you learn, having a hands on experience and hopefully having a job when you finish the apprenticeship.

 

What are you doing to develop within your role and company? 

I am currently developing my practical skills and underpinning knowledge at college. 

 

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I have learnt to communicate better with others, and have gained confidence to ask questions. 

 

How do you spend your free time? 

I spend time playing golf, and like spending time with my grandad on controlled aircraft.

 

What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?

I found the move from finishing school and going to college a struggle at first as the days are longer and the work load is a lot more intense.

 

What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person? 

I have made a good group of friends and feels I can now talk to others easier. I also feel I have become fitter due to the physical work at college and the commuting from home to work.

 

What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship? 

Spend time to think about what you would like to do in the future. Also try your hardest at school to get the best GCSE results.

 

What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over? 

I will have my qualifications and the skills set to hopefully go into a job role.
