Dave Southby

Dave Southby of Dave Southby Financial Planning is looking forward to April!

It’s April, the second month of Spring and does this mean April showers or will it be a time of sunshine end to end? We’re catching up with some business owners this month to see how things are looking for them during April.

Today we’re talking to Dave Southby who is Principal of Dave Southby Financial Planning LTD and is based in Swindon. They help clients through a friendly, down-to-earth approach and provide long term peace of mind based on your specific needs and budget.

April is the first month with lighter evenings. How are you making the most of this?
The lighter evenings are always welcome, especially when you get home and it is still light! It doesn’t change anything too much within the business but it does mean I can enjoy the garden in the evening – subject to the weather!

How is April looking for you in your business?
April is gearing up to be a fantastic month in many different ways. We have just welcomed 2 new members to the team, Opal and Ella, who will be able to help push the business and our client proposition forward. Neil will also be starting his 2 year, level 4, apprenticeship in Paraplanning as part of his continued career development.

Personally, I have been shortlisted for the Great British Business & Community ‘Young Entrepreneur of the year’ award. Just to be recognised for this is amazing.

Are you doing anything for charity or community this month that you’d like to share?
On April 12th, I will be holding a quarterly drop-in session at the Ellendune Centre to help local residents with any questions or concerns they may have about their finances with Martin Baker. We have been doing this for 2 years this summer and it has been a very welcome service to the local community.

We have also decided on our big charity event for 2024 in aid of The Kelly Foundation! We will be releasing details of this and how people can support us soon.

This month it’s Stress Awareness Month, what does stress mean to you?
Stress comes in all shapes and sizes and it’s incredibly important for us as a business to recognise that. We as a financial advisory practice help and support people through many different life stresses and we do everything we can to support them. We are all mental health first aid trained and our charity of the year, The Kelly Foundation, is also a mental health charity based in Swindon. We understand the importance of this and do everything we can to support those who need it.

Some key awareness days/weeks/months in April include;

  • National Pet Month
  • Allergy Awareness Week – April 22 to 28
  • National Scrabble Day – April 13
  • World Heritage Day – April 18

And there are many more! Are there any awareness days/weeks/months which are particularly important for your business?
Earth Day on Monday, April 22nd is very important to us. We do everything we can to ensure we leave the world a better place, including our commitment to the environment. We are proud to be a carbon neutral business and also one of the first businesses to partner with Avon Needs Trees – a local charity which was set up to create permanent woodland in the southwest of England.
