Tim Sherwood managing from the sideline was "bound to happen" - Swindon Town Head Coach Luke Williams

Swindon Town's head coach Luke Williams believes director of football Tim Sherwood coming down to manage the team from the dugout was "bound to happen" and "did not come as a surprise to anyone".

Sherwood, who was appointed director of football at the County Ground last Thursday, witnessed a 3-0 win over Charlton on Saturday in his first match 'in charge', but on Tuesday night Swindon lost 3-1 at home to non-league Eastleigh in the FA Cup first round replay.

As Swindon conceded the second goal in the 35th minute, Sherwood raced down from the executive seating towards the home dugout to bark instructions to his side with Williams taking more of a back seat in that regard.

Ex-Tottenham manager Sherwood's duties of being director of football have been outlined by himself and chairman Lee Power as being in charge of team tactics, team selection, team talks and transfers while Williams deals with training during the week and occupies the dugout during matches.

Messages are communicated from Sherwood to assistant manager Ross Embleton to Williams via sporting director Seamus Brady through the medium of earpiece, a system Williams insisted was "fine".

Sherwood said at his unveiling though, that if things are going badly on the pitch he "will be down there", referencing the touchline.

At full-time on Tuesday, Williams said: "He (Sherwood) wanted to have more input from the side and we knew that was a scenario that may happen - no-one was surprised to see Tim down there with us.

"He is fully in this with us and wants to help in every way."
