ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon 1-3 Eastleigh

Swindon Town were dumped out of the FA Cup in ignominious fashion as goals from Jai Reason, Andy Drury and Mikael Mandron earned non-league Eastleigh a 3-1 win at the County Ground.

Reason broke the deadlock with 16 minutes on the clock after he finished a move that the Swindon philosophy of playing always aims to create.

Scott Wilson took the ball in his stride from the edge of the area and passed the ball backwards to Mikael Mandon, who scored in the 1-1 draw at Eastleigh.

Ex-Sunderland striker Mandron feed the ball to Reason who played a neat one-two with Wilson to break away from the Town defence and then he hit a shot that deflected off Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill and into the goal.

Eastleigh doubled their lead ten minutes before the half-time break on the counter-attack from what was a Swindon corner.

Wilson broke with pace down the Robins' left-hand side and switched the ball to Andy Drury who had all the time in the world to steady himself, pick his spot, and dink the ball over an advancing Vigouroux.

Swindon's miserable night was truly compounded in the 75th minute when Mandron got one from the penalty spot.

Mandron was fouled by Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill in the box and stepped up to convert.

His effort was aimed to Vigouroux's left, and the Chilean got a palm to it, but the ball only rebounded off it and into the middle of the goal for 3-0, Eastleigh.

Nathan Delfouneso did claw back the tiniest smidgen of pride when he won the ball off goalkeeper Ryan Clarke and tapped in from a yard out to at least get the home side on the scoresheet in the 79th minute.

Swindon never really threatened Clarke as Eastleigh had a foothold on the match right from the first whistle, but Town did manage the first official shot on target when Sean Murray's effort from the edge of the box dribbled into the arms of Clarke.

Apart from that though, Swindon were pretty much limited to long-range efforts and wayward crosses that never gave the away side's back four or the goalkeeper any bother.

Town have not progressed beyond round one of the FA Cup now in five years.
