Tim Sherwood wants to bring experienced players to Swindon Town

Swindon Town's new Director of Football Tim Sherwood has evaluated the squad and believes experienced players will sort the club's current problems.

The Robins occupy 21st in League One going into Saturday's home match against Charlton Athletic and desperately need a good run of form to escape and then distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Swindon's squad currently has been built on the model of signing and developing young players - only three members (Raphael Branco, Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Obika, 26 years old) are above the age of 25.

When asked if experienced heads are needed in the squad, Sherwood responded: "I do, you are right. I think you are spot on.

"It is important that you get a good balance. Young players only develop when they have got good teachers around them, not necessarily from the outside from the coaching staff, sometimes you have to have good models on the pitch for them to look up to and it will be something we will be looking at come January.

"I think that when they (FIFA) changed the emergency loan system it is no good to anyone, players do not benefit from that and nor do football clubs.

"We will be bringing in players to help the kids that are already here and also to develop the ones that we will be bringing in. We need to be in a position where we develop (players) but they do not outgrow the club - that is the key."
