Swindon Town's Tim Sherwood appointment is the best the club have made in a long, long time says Lee Power

Swindon Town owner Lee Power believes the appointment of ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood as Director of Football is the best the club have made in a long, long time and the club chairman is "delighted" with the addition.

Sherwood was introduced to the media on Thursday afternoon, with Power clearly ecstatic with his shrewd move to bring the one-time Premier League winner as a player with Blackburn to Wiltshire.

"This gives me great pleasure, I do not need to introduce the man, we have managed to acquire one of the top, young English managers," Power said

"He will head up all aspects. That will be transfers, formations and picking of the team, it is not a demotion of Luke Williams, I think everyone is aware of what Luke is thought of in the game, he is a top, top coach. He will be Head Coach still.

"(Sherwood) will work alongside Luke and Ross (Embleton, the assistant manager). We need to get up the league, a change was needed and something needed to happen and I think this is one of the biggest appointments the club has made in a long, long time.

"Everyone knows Tim, he has been a friend of mine for nearly 25 years so there will not be a contract, it is a special relationship that we have, he certainly has not come here for the money, that is for sure, I think we all know that.

"Tim has turned down the chance to work with two Championship clubs this year and that is why it is so good to have him heading up our football department. I think he has overseen, and believes in, the project.

"The fans are disappointed, and I am disappointed, with the club’s league position – it is very difficult running a football club, especially one that was losing money as much as this one was.

"This season is the biggest budget we have had and we are in the relegation zone so it shows that money does not always buy you success. I am delighted that he has joined me."
