Stefan Thomas shares his tips to keep momentum in your business during the summer

It’s May and businesses are gearing up for summer! This month we’re talking to small business owners who are sharing their tips to help other business owners as we head towards the school holidays.

Up today is Stefan Thomas who is a keynote speaker and author of Business Networking for Dummies. Stefan is sharing his tips to keep momentum in your business.

For plenty of small businesses, this period between Easter and the school summer holidays is vital to their overall success in any year.

For business to business service providers particularly, the summer holiday period can be a little quieter as decision makers are on holiday, and some businesses are more reluctant to take on new services in the six weeks where they are likely to have fewer staff.

So, now is a vital time to make sure you're marketing, promoting and closing new business. Here's five things which I make sure I do at this time of year, every year, to ensure we don't lose any momentum.

  1. Networking - both in real life and virtually. Any opportunity I get to meet new folk and reconnect with existing contacts, I'll take. What networking events are local to you, or available online, which you can attend?
  2. Content - I do not allow my output of useful and trust building content to slow down at this time of year. I use a mixture of brand new content I've written or recorded, as well as older content which I can recycle. A huge benefit of having been producing content for as long as I have, as consistently as I have, is that I have a huge library of stuff to choose from. If you do'n't have as much, now is the time to start building that library.
  3. Who are your low hanging fruit? Who could you you be having 121s with and talking to them about working with you? Get those 121s booked whilst there is still time, before people go on holiday or get busy with their kids during the break.
  4. What opportunities haven't closed yet? Who has expressed interest in working with you and is still a 'maybe'? Go back through your records and notes and ask them where they're at? They might be ready to work with you, it might be one you can remove from your pipeline, and it might be just the reminder that they were looking for to move forward!
  5. What stories can you write about your business for the local press? What else can you be doing to promote yourself? You may need to try a few times, and you may go up some blind alleys, but the opportunities are there for some free promotion if you get your storytelling, and your timing, just right.

What else can you think of? What else do you do at this time of year? Or is your business not seasonal and the summer doesn't matter to you?

Momentum is important, and momentum is created, and continued, by us, so use this time to keep that momentum up as much as possible, so that the summer slowdown, isn't a complete stop.
