Rolling Stones poster

A rare 1960s Rolling Stones poster will be auctioned off this week after it was brought to a valuation day to support Wiltshire Air Ambulance hosted by tv presenter Paul Martin.

The poster was brought in by a private seller who wished to pass on a collection of autographs and rock and pop memorabilia from the 1960s. Several of the seller’s lots will be sold separately during the sale.

All were brought to Paul on the valuation day which was held at the Corn Exchange in Devizes in March – and will now go under the hammer at an Auction of Antiques, Fine Art, Jewellery & Collectors’ Items at Henry Aldridge & Son in Devizes being held on Friday and Saturday (April 12 and April 13).

Paul, who is Head of Valuations for Henry Aldridge & Son, said: “It was such a busy day and many people came in with items for valuation and to raise money for such a worthy cause. I’m a proud ambassador for Wiltshire Air Ambulance as we need to ensure we keep this vital charity in our community.

“This poster is particularly interesting as it’s 1964 and it was acquired directly by the private seller at the ABC cinema in Plymouth in August of this year. It features band members Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Keith Richards and is signed.”

The poster will be one of more than 900 lots going under the hammer across the two days and is lot 433. It’s estimated that it will sell for between £200 and £300. Vendors’ commission on any item sold from that valuation day will be donated to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Andrew Aldridge, managing director of Henry Aldridge & Son, said: “We have supported Wiltshire Air Ambulance for several years both personally and professionally as it’s very close to our hearts and is so important to our Wiltshire Community. We did a valuation day for the charity pre-Covid and we also always have a collection box in the auction rooms. To date we’ve raised £1000s and we hope to raise a four-figure sum this time around too.”
