September has been busy for Nicki Kinton of Confident Cashflow

It’s the final day of September and business owners around the UK are preparing for the final quarter of 2022 and reviewing their goals and plans.

Today we’re talking to Nicki Kinton who is the owner, Confident Cashflow. Nicki is based in Swindon and helps businesses get paid on time.

What happened for your business in September?
I had a busy September, speaking at an event in Salisbury that was hosted by Wiltshire Council with the FSB. I also spent some time working on some packages to offer in my business that will create different ways that people can work with me.

It was ‘back to school’ month – is this relevant to you personally or professionally?
I don’t have children so that’s not really a thing for me, however I do notice there’s often a similar feeling about this time of year that you get in January with businesses re-evaluating goals and looking to make improvements to help achieve those goals.

September is also known as ‘organic’ month – do you shop, dress, or behave with green ethics in mind?
I’m guilty of not giving this as much thought as I should. I am becoming more conscious about not buying new if there is a preloved option and trying to find new homes for things that I have loved, rather than send them to landfill.

It was World Gratitude Day this month – what are you grateful for at the moment?
I have an amazing community of friends and fellow business owners around me, and I am always grateful for and humbled by the love and support they give me.

Who are you grateful for at the moment?
I’m grateful for Tracey Miller of Bigger Brighter Bolder. Tracey is a very no-nonsense coach who has been helping me with some mindset challenges lately.

For Sarah Watts who has been very supportive of me through a lean period and holds me accountable for my marketing activity, there’s no slacking with Sarah around!

Last but not least, Toby, my husband, for his unwavering support

We are dealing with a lot of messages around ‘bad’ news such as the rising cost of living, inflation rising and interest rates rising. How are you keeping positive – what tips can you share with others?
I think it’s important to remember that recession is a natural part of the business lifecycle and being prepared is the key to remaining successful. Make sure your Ts & Cs are up to date and consider segmenting your customers into different levels of risk, so you can pay closer attention to those who may struggle to pay you on time.

Today is International Podcast Day – do you listen to podcasts or do you have one of your own? Can you share a tip? Which podcasts should others check out?
I don’t listen to many but have been a guest on a few. I do all of my listening in the car and as I’m not driving as much these days find I don’t get through so many episodes as I once did.

And finally, can you share something which inspires you to ‘keep going’?
Being part of a nurturing and supportive business networking group keeps me going, as well as the other business friends I see regularly.
