East and West Reunite as Swindon Businesses Support Kidney Donation

Families of Swindon are being asked to attend a flavour-filled taste of the East this March, when local businesses once again come together to host a special event to raise awareness and funds of non-directed kidney donation (the act of a healthy living person donating a kidney to someone in need of one).

East Meets West takes place on Saturday 12 March at the Supermarine Sports and Social Club, Swindon and is hosted by Swindon businesses The Sales and Marketing Hub and Kam's Motor Clinic. It aims to raise funding and awareness for national charity Give a Kidney and also support World Kidney Day (12 March).

Ticket-holders will be able to dance the night away with family and friends. DJ Gamma will be playing floor-filling tunes from Bhangra to Bollywood, from the 70s to the present, and a delicious hot Punjabi buffet is included in the ticket price. There is also a licensed bar on premises. Song requests are welcome in advance.

The event is supported by the following generous local businesses:  Asset Guardian Company, Castles Estate Agents, CentraHeat, Corin Design, Exploreworld, Francis George Solicitor Advocate, Ideal Displays, Kam’s Motor Clinic, MLL Print and Digital, Mortgage Advice Bureau, Switch on Computers, Thermographic Consultancy Limited, The Sales and Marketing Hub Limited and Utility Warehouse.

A raffle draw will be held on the night and any generous raffle prize donations are welcome.

Jasie Rai, Director of the Sales and Marketing Hub said: “I love getting people together and, being of a multicultural background, feel this is a great way to celebrate, fundraise and bring great people together.  We held a similar event last year which was so well received that people were asking for there to be another in 2016!  Over £2, 410 was raised from last year’s event with approved matched from Barclays Bank thanks to the help and support from Charanjit Dhaliwal of Barclays in Swindon.

Tickets for this year’s event are now on sale from [email protected]. We would be delighted to welcome friends new and old!”

Jasie has only one kidney herself having had one removed. She has a pyeloplasty on the remaining kidney and may eventually need a kidney transplant.

Chris Burns-Cox of Give a Kidney said: “Thanks once again to Jasie and to everyone who is helping to make this event possible. There are currently more than 5500 people on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the UK, and around 300 people die each year whilst waiting for a kidney transplant. Humans only need one kidney so if more healthy people came forward to give theirs, more lives could be saved. In the UK almost 500 people have donated a kidney to someone they do not know.

We're very grateful to Jasie for creating this event which, if it's anything like the last one, will help us towards our missing that one day there will be no-on in the UK waiting for a transplant for want of a kidney.”

The event takes place on Saturday 12 March from 6.30pm to 11.30pm at the Supermarine Sports and Social Club, South Marston, Swindon.

Tickets are £12.50 Adult (£15.00 on the door) £5.00 Child (£6.00 on the door). Under 5s free.  Tables of 8-10 available for tickets purchased in advance and on first come first served basis.  For tickets or more information please email [email protected] or phone 07771 556185. There is also an East Meets West Charity Fundraising page on Facebook.
