Beth Shipway's 2021 Business Growth & Plans

Today we're talking to Beth Shipway who is general manager of the David Lloyd Clubs in Swindon. David Lloyd Clubs is a family fitness destination. They offer some outstanding facilities including the gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a range of group exercise classes, out boutique Blaze studio, outdoor Battlebox, a crèche, kids club, a clubroom offering an extensive menu plus indoor and outdoor play frames.

Are you in a business which is either opening up this month – or preparing to open up? 

We opened up our outdoor facilities on the 29th March to members which is very exciting after having to close all facilities due to covid for the last three months in line with government guidelines. We have been running outdoor group exercise classes seven days a week and our outdoor pool and outdoor tennis courts have been available to members from March 29.

From this week we have opened up more facilities inside, however our class timetable will continue to run outside until the 17th May as per current guidelines and lockdown mapping plans.  

What are you most looking forward to as the country tries to ‘open up’?

Our members continue to tell us how much they are missing the club and the impact it has had on their mental and physical health not being able to attend, so we are really looking forward to opening up and supporting our members once again. 

What do you do personally to support your health and wellbeing? 

When I’m not at the club, I like to get outside in the fresh air and find lovely places to walk with my dog, I find that so calming and it allows me to take time to gather my thoughts. I also enjoy running and also take the dog with me to do that too! 

Do you see your product/service as one which supports the health and wellbeing of others such as your clients? 

Absolutely, our offering 100% supports the mental and physical health of our members and that is why I love my job!

As the year goes on, will you take health and wellbeing more seriously going forward?

Due to the industry I work in, it has always been high up on the list, however the last 12 months has made that an even higher priority.
