ACADEMIC CAMP PARTNERS WITH THEIRWORLD CHARITY TO SUPPORT CHILDREN IN UKRAINE
Leading academic school holiday specialist Academic Camp has made a pledge to participate in the "Your Walk" fundraiser, to support the global education charity Theirworld as it strives to help children in Ukraine access education.
The initiative aims to raise vital funds to provide laptops for children in Ukraine who are unable to attend school due to the destruction of educational facilities and the lack of access to devices.
Led by Helen Lami, Academic Camp aims to raise a minimum of £2,000 for Theirworld by walking during May and June. This fundraising effort will facilitate the provision of at least 10 much-needed laptops for learners affected by the conflict.
The ongoing war has resulted in the destruction of thousands of schools, leaving approximately 1.7 million children reliant on remote learning. An estimated 300,000 children have no access to education at all due to the absence of necessary devices such as laptops. Each donation of £200 will provide a laptop for a child, enabling them to continue their education from home.
Theirworld, chaired by Sarah Brown, wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, launched the "Your Walk" campaign, inviting individuals to walk 300,000 steps and challenging organisations to collectively achieve one million steps. In response to this call to action, Academic Camp has set an ambitious goal of reaching 2 million steps collectively as a team in the month of June.
Helen expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Theirworld Charity is a natural fit for us, given their global education mandate. Academic Summer is proud to participate in 'Your Walk' during June, and we urge the parents of children attending our Summer Camps, as well as all our contacts, to support this worthy cause."
Caroline Marshall, Communications Executive at Academic Camp, has already been walking for the charity in Inverkeithing.
She said: “I live on the Fife Costal Path right next to the Forth Road Bridge so there is plenty of opportunity for walking during a lunch break. On a clear day I can see Edinburgh and even the Bass Rock. There are quite a few Ukranian refugees living here and now my home town of Auchtermucty has its first-ever yoga class thanks to a young Ukrainian’s entrepreneurial spirit so they are bringing positive change to the community. I am pleased to be given the opportunity to help a little.”
