Swindon Town's Lloyd Jones: "We have got great leaders"

Swindon Town's on-loan centre back Lloyd Jones believes the squad, although young and currently without captain Nathan Thompson, have enough leaders to fill the gap left by the skipper's injury.

Thompson is currently nursing a reoccurence of his hamstring injury that he picked up in the 1-1 draw at Eastleigh in the FA Cup, but without him on Saturday Town cruised to a 3-0 win over Charlton.

Jones, who made it 2-0 on Saturday courtesy of intelligently losing his marker as a result of a corner, told the media after the match that there is enough in the Robins' ranks to cope with the gap left by youth academy graduate Thompson.

The Liverpool loanee, 21, said: "I think everyone has to step up (in Thompson's absence).

"Nath is the leader of our team, he is a really good leader, but we have also got great leaders like Yaser (Kasim) in midfield. He always speaks his mind which is really important."

Kasim was given the armband on Saturday by new Director of Football Tim Sherwood, who now picks the team instead of Head Coach Luke Williams, despite Raphael Branco normally being Swindon's vice captain.

"We are not an experienced side but I think that makes us more together because we are all so young," Jones continued, and he would go on to explain how he kept the Charlton strike partnership of Lee Novak and former Swindon striker Nicky Ajose at bay.

"They could not get near us because (of) they way we cleared the ball.

"When they got near us I was playing (the ball) out wide, it did not come off all the time but, as a player, if you know the ball is going to go in behind you you start dropping off.

"I think we put doubt in their mind straight away from kick-off and I think that is why Nicky Ajose was dropping in trying to press me but he couldn't because every time he did I was kicking it."
