Rosco Hopes Morris Can Follow In Kildemand's Footsteps

Following Nick Morris’ confirmation as the Swindon Robins sixth winter signing, Robins and Great Britain manager Alun Rossiter gave Total Sport's Ryan Walker his thoughts as the Wiltshire club prepare for the 2016 Speedway Elite League season.

The re-signing of Australian Morris sees him return for a fifth straight season after first signing back in 2012, and Rossiter says he is delighted to have a familiar face back at the club.

“Of course I am delighted to have Nick back at the club for another season," Rossiter began.

“Nick was eager to come back to Swindon for another season and we are delighted to have him back.

“I suppose you could say it’s nice to have a familiar face back at the club again following the departure of so many riders, but I don’t think it will be a problem integrating everyone into the team," he added.

The departure of Troy Batchelor to the King’s Lynn Stars means that Morris is now the longest serving rider at the club and with a vacant Captain’s spot many are tipping Morris to lead the line. However Rossiter says it isn’t something he has thought too much about yet.

“The departure of Batchelor means that Nick could very well be a possible captain next year," he stated.

“However it’s not something I’ve thought about massively yet.

“Everyone will just have to wait and see.”

At the age of 21, Morris is still a youngster within the sport but his duration at the Swindon Robins means that many newcomers to the squad will view him as a senior figure, something that was reiterated by Rossiter.

“I’m sure Nick will now view himself as one of the more experienced riders at the club," he said.

“But I can’t imagine that will put any added pressure on him as a rider.

“Nick will just focus on his riding,” Rossiter added.

Since his arrival at Swindon in 2012, Morris has established himself as one of the top riders in the Elite League and even featured in the 2015 Speedway World Cup for Australia. And Rossiter believes that Nick Morris has a big future ahead of him.

“I’d like to think we will have a similar situation to Peter Kildemand on our hands in terms of rising through the ranks and becoming a world class GP rider,” said the Robins boss.

“Nick’s expanding his riding into Europe next season and I think that will be a great move for his career.

“Nick is a fantastic talent and at the age of 21 I’m sure he can go on to achieve great things," Rossiter added.
