Rosco: Grajczonek Could Be Heat Leader Alongside Doyle

Following the signing of Josh Grajczonek, the Aussie contingency in the Swindon Robins camp has increased in numbers. A familiar face, Grajczonek returns to the Abbey looking to make his mark. Total Sport's Ryan Walker spoke with manager Alun Rossiter to get the low-down.

The signing of Aussie ace Josh Grajczonek last Saturday meant the Robins have secured their fifth rider in the off-season, and are now well on the way to having a full strength squad for the 2016 Elite League.

After leaving the Wiltshire club through injury in 2011, many fans thought they would never see Grajczonek back in action for the Robins, but manager Rossiter said the 25-year-old is someone he has had his eye on for a while.

“I’ve always liked Josh as a rider.” Rossiter began.

“Following the disappointing end to our season this year, I spoke to Josh about coming to Swindon and originally we didn’t think it was going to work so we started looking elsewhere.”

“But, after another discussion with him, we decided to go ahead with the move and I’m delighted to have him as I think there is a lot more to come from Josh Grajczonek," he added.

Winning the Elite League title with Poole in the 2013 and 14 seasons respectively along with making the grand final last season with Manchester club Belle Vue, Grajczonek knows how to ride successfully in the playoffs and Rossiter said his experience at that stage of the season will be vital next year.

“Josh is an out and out racer and he’s done everything you can do in the Elite League.”

“His experience of reaching the playoffs and more importantly the final will be a major help to the squad next season if we are to be successful," said Rossiter.

The recent departure of Captain Troy Batchelor means that the second heat leader position within the team is up for grabs. And after his impressive results as a heat leader for Belle Vue towards the end of last season, Rossiter says Grajczonek could possibly fill the void but reiterated that he needs to think things over before making a final decision.

“Josh could possibly be the other heat leader along with Doyley [Jason Doyle]” he stated.

“Josh was a heat leader towards the end of last season with Belle Vue and proved he can do the job.

“But I need to look at the squad and see who else we bring in first before making a final decision.” Rossiter added.
