MATCH PREVIEW: Port Vale v Swindon Town

SWINDON TOWN travel to Port Vale as Town look to extend their unbeaten run in League Two to ten games. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi previews the clash.

A comprehensive 4-0 win against Cambridge United on Boxing Day saw Swindon record their fifth straight win at home and stay three points clear at the top of League Two.

Eoin Doyle's early penalty saw the Bradford-loanee net in his 11th consecutive game, and if he scores against Vale he will surpass Harry Morris' record that stretches back to the 1926/27 season.

Keshi Anderson also bagged the second hat-trick of his senior career, and his first for Town, taking his tally up to six goals which is two more than he managed last season.

Swindon haven't suffered defeat in the league since October, but they will have their work cut out against a Port Vale side that have been impressive at home.

John Askey's well-drilled squad have only lost once at Vale Park in the league, and they have found themselves upsetting many of the top seven this season.

Wins against promotion-chasing Crewe, Forest Green, and Bradford as well as a draw against Colchester has seen Port Vale enter the play-off race with the Valiants occupying tenth spot - just five points adrift of the top seven.

However, Swindon can boast the best away record in the division, picking up 21 points on their travels from a possible 33. The Robins have also scored the most away goals in League Two, and they will need all their attacking firepower to break down a Vale defence who have conceded just nine goals at home this season.

Gabriel Zakuani and Ellis Iandolo came in for the injured Zeki Fryers and Rob Hunt last time out, and the pair may retain their places in the starting eleven following solid performances against Cambridge.

Richie Wellens stated earlier in the month that he would make changes during this busy period, and with big games against Plymouth and Bradford coming up, Town's manager may feel the need to rotate his squad.

Diallang Jaiyesimi, Danny Rose, Jordan Lyden and Lloyd Isgrove will be pushing for starts after being on the bench for the Boxing Day win.

Isgrove hasn't made a start since returning from injury, and after making a late cameo against Cambridge, the 26-year-old might make his first start since Crawley back in October.

This could be the final time Swindon see any one of Anthony Grant, Jerry Yates and Eoin Doyle, but Wellens stated that an agreement has been verbally agreed for one of the loanees to stay at SN1 for the remainder of the campaign.

Eight wins and one draw in the last nine games has seen Swindon cement themselves as the league leaders, but a vital month awaits Swindon with worries over loanees and games against promotion rivals upcoming.

Swindon must not underestimate Port Vale who have maintained a good record against top seven sides, but they should be confident of extending their unbeaten run at Vale Park. ?
