T2 Celebrates...Hayley Hurdle Fitness!

At T2, the best part of what we do is seeing our students embark on a new career they’re passionate about and seeing their successes.

Hayley is no exception. Since being a student at T2, she’s been able to leave her previous job, gone from strength to strength in her new business and all while being a new mother.

Here she shares her story to date, launching Hayley Hurdle Fitness.

What were you doing before working in fitness?

“A graduated Chemist, I have worked in the Chemical Waste Management for over 10 years. My most recent role as Compliance Manager.”

When and why did you decide to switch career?

“For many years I had been a recreational runner but never understood the benefit of strength training to compliment my hobby. With a love of the subject, I investigated the possibility of making a career in fitness in 2016.

“I decided I wanted to work in an industry where I could offer value to an individual’s life so I signed up to complete my Level 2 Fitness Instructor course.

Describe your fitness education journey.

“A long time coming!

“After signing up to complete my Level 2 Fitness Instructor course, days later I found out I was pregnant with my second child. I continued to study and went on to complete my Level 3 Personal Trainer course during my maternity leave in November 2017.

“During this time, I took on lots of classes in the local park and started to take on some 1-2-1 clients. As this was during my Maternity leave, I donated all monies raised – over £1000 – to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

“Through this experience, I realised I wanted to live the life of a freelance PT more as I could see the difference consistent training was having to people.”

What have you done since becoming qualified?

“Through 2018, I worked both as a part-time Compliance Manager and part-time Personal trainer.

“I continued holding my weekly group classes and all PT sessions were held at my home where I built a fully equipped studio, designed to be a unique space where people feel comfortable to train.

“I have also undertaken a couple of CPD – continuing professional training - courses in Suspension Training and Kettlebells.

“In February 2019, I left my job of 8 years as Compliance Manager. I liked my job, but I loved my Personal Training and being a mother and I couldn’t do it all. Something had to give.

“I now have over 30 active clients with over 20 1-2-1 sessions being completed weekly along with 3 group classes. I have started to take on online clients too.”

What has been your proudest achievement or biggest success since doing what you do now?

“Knowing that I did this all by myself and I have made a positive difference to many peoples lives. I am so passionate about what I do, and it is clearly seen by my clients!

“I have successfully helped people achieve goals such as running their first half marathon, loosing substantial amounts of weight, lowering blood pressure, improving mental health through exercise, showing people that exercise can be fun… the list is endless!”

Finally, what advice would you give anyone looking to switch to a career in fitness?

“A change of career is never an easy decision. Be sure of the reasons of WHY you want this change and be clear with yourself with what you would like to achieve. Do your research and follow your heart!”
