REVIEW: Superslam Wrestling at Wyvern Theatre
As a long-time wrestling fan, I was hugely excited to see that one of the oldest wrestling promotions in the UK was coming to Swindon. Read on to see just what happened as the Wyvern Theatre swapped plays from powerslams!
As you entered the Wyvern Theatre’s foyer, the atmosphere was electric. Everywhere you looked you saw families excitedly looking forward to the action, foam fingers in hand. Children dressed in their favourite wrestlers’ t-shirts and wearing traditional Mexican luchador masks. There was even a group of fully costumed fans enjoying the show as part of a stag do.
There were five bouts on the match card for the evening:
- Harlem Brovado (w) v Adam Maxted (As seen on Love Island)
- Max Moran (w) v Ringo Ryan
- Dan May & Screwface v Jay Bailey & James Mason (w)
- Oliver Grey (w) v Gangrel
- Screwface v Tiger Kid & Little Les (w)
Highlights of the evening include the Harlem Brovado’s audience-riling performance as a Pro-Trump, anti-UK antagonist taking on Adam “Flex” Maxted, who you may recognise from ITV’s Love Island, and the appearance of Gangrel, a former star with the WWF (now WWE) who I had the pleasure of meeting after the show. It was brilliant to see this mix of legendary names, those who have made a reputation for themselves within the wrestling world, and the out and out entertainers. There really was something for everyone!
Goodies versus baddies, performers orchestrating the crowds in to cheering and booing and awe-inspiring acrobatics. The more you think about it, the more you realize just how at home a wrestling show is in a theatre. Make sure you grab your tickets to Superslam’s next visit!
