Old Town’s Sausage & Ale festival is back, and this year it’s Eco- Friendly!

The Old Town Business Association’s annual food event is back again for a sixth year, running their now famous Sausage & Ale Festival. The event sees food and drinks’ businesses showcase craft beers and ales, a host of sizzling bangers and other foods from around the world.

The event is set for Sunday 1st September and has become popular among ale and sausage lovers, as well as families who come out for the day to enjoy all that Old Town has to offer.

James Marshman, the Co-Event Organiser for the Old Town Business Association, commented “The Sausage & Ale Festival has gone from strength to strength each year as more flock to Wood Street and Old Town. We are delighted it’s been supported so well and we hope everyone from across Swindon and the surrounding areas will come and join us.” 

At this year’s festival, stall holders are being encouraged to be as eco-friendly as possible. Instead of the usual plastic cups, The Tuppenny craft beers will be served in plant starch cups, which are compostable, the Royal Oak will be using cans and compostable straws, and all the food vendors are being encouraged to use highly recyclable cardboard rather than polystyrene or plastic containers. People can even bring their own reusable plates and make their experience 'zero waste'. 

Co-Event Organiser Jessie Dennis, who sits on the committee, said “We’re really excited about the event this year. As well as several stalls for the sweeter tooth and some activities for the kids, there will also be appearances from some well-known children’s characters.” 

Live music will be provided by seasoned festival favourites such as Drew Bryant and Ministry of Samba, as well as other young rising talents from the local area. Commonweal student Lottie J (15yrs old) has been performing nationally since she was 12 and has a newly formed backing band who performed with her at Avebury Rocks earlier this year - she will be performing covers and originals in the final live set of the day.
 
The Sausage & Ale Trail is organised by volunteers from the Old Town Business Association, which is headed up by Chairman Richard Deacon of Deacon’s Jewellery. “We absolutely love running this event for Old Town, and are so grateful for all the support shown by everyone who comes and visits us! It is lovely to see Old Town buzzing with life.”

The afternoons festivities start at 12pm on Sunday 1st September 2019, and will run until around 5pm.
