Review: Pizza Menu at Hall & Woodhouse Wichelstowe

The team and I had the pleasure of visiting Hall & Woodhouse to try their brand-new pizza menu, stay here to read all about it.

The (rare) August sunshine created the perfect backdrop for this delicious lunchtime meal. Arriving, at Hall & Woodhouse, we were promptly greeted with a smile by staff behind the bar at the entrance to the restaurant. We made our way over on Wednesday 16th August at lunchtime, but Hall & Woodhouse can fulfil your pizza fix, Monday - Saturday, from 12pm until 9pm.

With several areas to sit in: the inside seating including a unique canal boat; window seats, long rectangular tables and four-seater booths, we were spoilt for choice. However, we took advantage of the comfortable weather and opted for their outdoor seating. Tables outside had a mix of circular and rectangular arrangements, additionally, there are cosy swinging chairs, Hall & Woodhouse have truly thought of it all. The serene canal shimmering against the midday rays was a view we couldn’t resist!

Pizza is a great casual meal option, ordering a few of the five options available and sharing with friends and family. The friendly restaurant staff checked back on us imminently and the team were ready to take our drink orders. Hall & Woodhouse also have a new range of beers, which we all had a try of. Whether your taste leans towards rich and dark flavours, citrussy or sweet their Outland series has got you covered. Their canned, Badger Brewery beverages, come in: Hazy IPA, Ginger Pale Ale, Peach Lager and Milk Stout. I selected the Hazy IPA and enjoyed it’s juicy, refreshing notes.

Shortly after, our drinks arrived and we were given the opportunity to order our food. The team and I went all in and ordered one of each pizza:

  • Margherita (v)
  • Pepperoni
  • Goats Cheese (v)
  • Prosciutto
  • Pulled Vegan Duck (vg)

Alongside this, we ordered the crispy on the outside, yet, fluffy on the inside, triple-cooked chips. I can almost still smell the richly seasoned scents of the piping hot pizzas. They come whole, with a fork and small pizza knife, so you can self-serve a slice as thin or wide as you like! Every pizza was cooked to perfection with soft, doughy crusts, thin bases and melty cheese. The delectable, smooth tomato pizza sauce was evenly spread on pizza bases amply. As we grazed across our table full of aesthetically pleasing pizzas, the one that surprised me the most was the Goats Cheese. It is topped along with pine nuts and rocket, which is an untraditional pairing, but the flavours complimented each other well and this vegetarian option is something I would order again for myself. That being said, the pepperoni was my personal favourite with, more than adequate, gooey cheese and a generous amount of herbs sprinkled on top, this classic has been recreated to perfection by Hall & Woodhouse. As we continued to dig in, the service continued to be polite and considerate, we were asked if we needed drink top-ups and if the food was all okay.

I highly recommend that the next time you fancy a pizza (or five!) you are a guest at Hall & Woodhouse, in Wichelstowe.
