Food and drink trends for 2019

This year’s food and drinks trends will see health reign in 2019 as alternatives trailblaze menus and eateries across the globe.

To provide some insight into what we think will be sold and served we at Tgt have created a brief list, read on to find out more;

Non -alcoholic spirits are being celebrated by abstainers across the country, as they are treated to a refreshing, alternative to tap water or a flat soft drink. As we look towards a few more weeks of dry January, we think a Seedlip spirit could be just the tonic.

Milk but not as we know it. Hot off the heels of the veganism trend milk alternatives are predicted to make a big splash in 2019. Soy, oat, coconut, almond and rice milk are already gracing coffee shop menus up and down the country providing a consumer choice bigger than ever before. Oat latte anyone?

First, it was sourdough now it is sauerkraut. Fermentation is cited to be big in 2019, as the benefits of fermented foods on our gut shows. So, grab your cabbage, glass jar and weights and get pickling.

Veganism and plant-based products are here to stay. As consumer’s demand more than a limp lettuce leaf and block of tofu, restaurants and supermarkets have been forced to respond with an expanded vegan menu and larger food ranges.

The idea of meat grown in a lab turns our stomach somewhat. However, the developing trend for “motherless” meat irrespective of its rather hefty price tag is predicted to be with us very soon.

CBD (Cannabidiol) infused foods and drinks are set to dominate the health market this year. All we know is; it’s a therapeutic alternative to cannabis which does not produce a high, is an analgesic, therefore, has pain relieving effects, has anti- seizure properties and can potentially combat anxiety.

Canned wine is born from another consumer demand, and we love the idea. For those times when you only want a glass, a can reduces the desire to binge drink. It’s practical, saves waste (apart from the remaining glass you add to the Bolognese) and does not require a bottle opener.

So, there it is our concise list of trends for 2019. If these trends tell us anything this year is going to be all about health and sustainability.
