Swindon Town's Lee Power says club rejected January bid for Lawrence Vigouroux

Swindon Town chairman Lee Power has revealed that goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux was subject to a rejected bid during the January transfer window.

Chairman Power was taking part in one of his semi-regular phone-in shows with BBC Wiltshire where he addressed fans concerns.

Vigouroux, who signed for a fee believed to be £400,000 in the summer from Liverpool following a loan spell last season, has been one of the few positive points of what has been a disappointing season for Swindon thus far.

It was not disclosed which club(s) targeted Vigouroux, what division they are in, or what the supposed fee that was rejected was, but what Power did say was that he recieved a "big, big offer" for the services of the London-born Chilean.

"I had a big, big offer for him in this window," he said.

"But he's too key for us. The money that we would lose from going down (to League Two) is too much so it wasn't enough money (offered to accept) and we turned it down.

"Lawrence is a fantastic goalkeeper. Everywhere he goes people talk about Lawrence.

"He hasn't got a (release fee) clause in there (his contract) but it's difficult to explain to fans that when a player does want to go it's difficult to stand in their way.

"He signed permanently from Liverpool on the proviso and the promise that if he does well that we wouldn't stand in his way if he did have an opportunity (to leave the club for a brighter career choice).

"If we offer him 3,000 (pounds) a week and someone else offers 20,000 a week then it's impossible for these lads not to go, it's nothing detrimental to them.

"A lot of supporters get hurt and look at loyalty but that's football nowadays - you can't stand in their way. If you do you get the situation (that West Ham did with Dmitri Payet) and they're in the Premier League, what chance would we have at Swindon?

"There is no release clause and we are happy to have Lawrence here."
