Swindon Cricket Club announce ex-England international Phil DeFreitas as head coach
Swindon Cricket Club (SCC) have appointed ex-England international Phil DeFreitas as their head coach and they say they are "pleased and excited" by his addition.
De Freitas has signed a three-year deal at Swindon in what is an eye-brow raising appointment by the local cricket club.
"Swindon Cricket Club are pleased and excited to announce that we have appointed ex-England international cricketer," a statement from the club began.
"Phil DeFreitas as club head coach for the next three years. Phil has enjoyed a long and prolific career in the game, playing for England at the highest level."
Club chairman Tom Foreman added: "I’m excited about the benefit this signing can have for both current, prospective and future players in the Swindon area. We plan to deliver success on and off the cricket field in a manner that matches the history and former pedigree of the club.
"The signing of a head coach with Phil's calibre and experience represents a key milestone within the clubs ambitious five-year plan. We are forging a new relationship aimed at delivering a long lasting legacy for Swindon Cricket Club, its members and the local sporting community.

SCC hope that the appointment of DeFreitas will help them in their "aim to be the best cricket club in the area" as they attract exciting, fresh faces year-on-year.
"The signing of Phil DeFreitas as head coach will help enable Swindon Cricket Club to develop cricketers of all ages, helping to ensure the future strength of cricket at the club and in the local area."
