Swindon Town re-sign striker Nicky Ajose from Charlton

Swindon have confirmed that striker Nicky Ajose has returned to the County Ground for his third spell at the club, signing on loan until the end of the season.

Ajose departed Swindon last summer for Charlton in a deal that was believed to be worth £800,000 but he has now left the Valley to re-sign for the Robins.

The 25-year-old striker initially signed on loan during the 2013-14 season, in which he scored six goals in 16 games.

He would then join the club on a permanent deal, a free transfer, in the summer of 2015 when Leeds agreed to terminate his contract and the ex-Manchester United trainee netted 22 goals in 33 outings which saw him in the running for the League One golden boot last season.

Prior to his first stint at Swindon Ajose scored 13 goals in 28 appearances for then-League Two Bury in 2010-11 followed by an indifferent few years at Peterborough which saw him make two appearances for the Posh in 2011-12 as well as loans at Scunthorpe and Chesterfield.

In 2012, while still contracted to Peterborough, he had two temporary spells at at Crawley and Bury, scoring six goals in 38 games in League One but then found his feet at Swindon the season after.

After his few months at Swindon, Ajose went back to parent club Peterborough and added a further seven to his season tally and was snapped up by Leeds but he only featured for the Whites three times, failing to score.

While contracted to Leeds, Ajose would return to League One on loan, via Crewe, where he scored eight in 27 which caught Swindon's eye.

This season Ajose is Charlton's second top goalscorer with six goals in 28 games in the league.
