Vic Morgan: My STFC season ratings

Lifelong Robins fan Vic Morgan has been giving his authoritative say on every Swindon Town Football Club, each Tuesday on Total Sport. With the 2015/16 season now over, Morgan looks back at the campaign as a whole and passes his verdict on each player.

The end of the season. Another one goes into the, been there, seen it, worn the replica shirt section. A disappointing campaign in many respects.

I don't think there were many Town fans who expected a repeat of the year before. With another new squad, the play offs were always a tough ask. I'm not sure though, that a fight to avoid the drop was something we expected.

It was comfortably avoided in the end and we have another term in League One to look forward too. It's going to be quite something too. Unlike last season, there're local derbies everywhere. Top of the list is the matches against the team from the Kassam.

Let's face it, our recent record against them is awful. No Swindon supporter wants that to continue. If there's one message to those in power, yes I know it's a pun, make sure you don't lose those games because we'd like to win one, occasionally.

What has been refreshing has been the emergence of some of the younger members of the squad. In the last two games we saw Will Henry make his Town bow and what a bow.

Saving a penalty in your first match and a clean sheet in the second is a great start for the 17 year old. He has bags of potential and could be a starter next season. Don't see why not.

Another player who looks likely to figure is Jordan Young. Great goal on the final day, again great potential.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if some of these youngsters formed the backbone of Swindon Town. Think back to the days of Bert's babes when the likes of Ernie Hunt, Bobby Wooodruffe, John Trollope, Mike Summerbee and of course Don Rogers, came off the Swindon production line.

So how did the squad perform overall? Well just a few thoughts on those who were regular members of the team.:-

Lawrence Vigouroux: Decent season after coming into replace the excellent Wes Foderingham. Making crucial saves on a weekly basis, the keeper has a bright future. Wish him well at Liverpool.

Bradley Barry: One of the successes of the season for me. Surely couldn't have expected to have played as many games as he did. Pretty consistent right through the campaign and looks likely to figure strongly again next term.

Rafael Rossi Branco: Plays with the kind of passion fans love. Has his moments of shall we say eccentricity and can be prone to the odd flash of temper, but a fans favourite because he looks like he cares and that's all we ask.

Brandon Ormonde- Ottewill: Plenty of games for the former Arsenal trainee. Began to settle into the side in the middle of the season and showed some consistency. Sadly the end of the season was a bit of a disaster for him. Laughing gas and red cards are something he won't want to hear about next term.

James Brophy: A player with potential. His best game early on was at Crewe when he helped turn the match in Swindon's favour. Loves to get forward and is learning defensively. Hopefully that'll continue next year.

Nathan Thompson: What can I say. He's our leader and the team isn't the same without him. Shows maturity beyond his years. Let's hope he gets a good summer and an injury free season. We need a fit Nathan leading the side.

Fabian Robert: Had the ability to change a game. Would have loved to see that on a more consistent basis.

Yaser Kasim: A will he, won't he player? The chances are he won't. Be at the County Ground next season that is.

Drissa Traore: Another player who needs to perform on a consistent basis. In and out and again involved in that laughing gas incident.

Anton Rodgers: Okay this is where I fall out with some Town fans. Provided one of the highlights of the season for me with the cross that led to the winner at Shrewsbury. Passing accuracy is always high. Not everyone's cup of tea but I have no problem with him.

Nicky Ajose: Scoring over twenty goals a season is the bench mark for a striker. He achieved that so job done. Nothing more need be said.

Jon Obika: All round game has improved without doubt. Now a hard working player who made lots of space for Ajose to exploit. A very good season for the former Spurs player.

Jordan Turnball: Looked back to his best at the end of the season. A big strong centre back who would make a good permanent player for the Town, hint hint.

Jamie Sendles-White: Sign him, bags of potential, a rock steady central defender. Give him a deal. (Vic called this one perfectly, as Swindon Town have since secured Sendles-White on a new deal)

Louis Thompson: A fans favourite but struggled for fitness. At his best a dominant force. Maybe the lack of a proper pre season hampered his game. Top player with tons of ability.

Michael Doughty: A good addition to the squad and again would be a welcome signing.

Ty Belford: No question about his loyalty and love for the club. Unlucky with being an understudy to Vigouroux and then injury. Had a nightmare, didn't everyone, at Scunthorpe. Great last minute save at Coventry.

So that's about it. Another one done and dusted. Have a great summer and here's to August the 6th.
