Swindon Wildcats snap up Luc Johnson

The Swindon Wildcats have confirmed the signing of Luc Johnson.

Johnson is well known in and around Swindon after spending time at the Okanagan Hockey Academy UK, captaining them in the 2014/2015 season. Since graduating from OHA, he has been with the MK Lightning as they secured a play-offs and cup double earlier this year.

Speaking the second new face to the team, following Renny Marr joining from Coventry, Aaron Nell praised the impact that Johnson will have in Swindon:

“I’ve known Luc for a while, he had two good years in Milton Keynes and we’re excited to have him here. He is very responsible for his age; I am looking forward to him playing all over our line-up.

"He is a leader and he has a very mature head on his shoulders. He’s got an inner drive where he wants to improve, and make the move to the next level.”

As well as playing for MK; Johnson has also played for both GB U18s and GB U20s, captaining the side at both age levels. Something, which Player Coach Nell wants to see more of in Swindon.

“It’s brilliant for the Wildcats to be signing the GB U20s captain, and this just highlights his leadership and maturity for his age. He will bring that to Swindon, and he won two trophies last year and wants to win trophies this year.

"He is ready to make the next step and have more responsibility this year as well as bringing many little things, which you want in your team as a coach. I’m excited for Luc to start in September.”

Having iced for the EPL Wildcats during the 2014/2015 campaign, Johnson himself is thrilled to be getting a full season in the red and white jersey:

“It’s a pleasure to have signed for Swindon. As soon as Aaron & Steve spoke to me about their plans, I knew it was going to be the best fit to continue my development. It was so attractive for me as they welcomed the idea of the two-way deal with Milton Keynes too.

It will be good to get a full season in Wildcats colours after a taste of it a couple of seasons ago. I just can’t wait to start now, and hope all the Wildcats fans are enjoying their summer. I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.”
