Swindon Town sign Ben Purkiss on a free transfer from Port Vale

Swindon Town have made Port Vale captain Ben Purkiss their fourth signing of the summer.

Purkiss, 33, joins on a free transfer from Port Vale following the expiration of his contract at Vale Park.

He started his career at Sheffield United but failed to make an appearance for the Blades and he soon joined Gainsborough Trinity in 2003 and played over 100 matches in four years.

In 2007 he moved to York City and featured 112 times before a two-year spell at Oxford United, whom he played 23 matches.

Spells at Darlington (loan) and Hereford followed before his move to Walsall in 2012, where he played 73 games.

Since 2015 he has been at Vale, where he was made club captain, but he and Vale, like Swindon, were relegated from League One last season.

Swindon Town have not revealed the length of his contract.
