Swindon Town make double deadline day signings

SWINDON TOWN have made two deadline day signings as both Kyle Bennett and Cameron McGilp joined the club on the final day of the transfer window.

Joining from League One Bristol Rovers and Championship side Birmingham City respectively, Town’s latest recruits became manager Richie Wellens’ eight and ninth January additions.

Being announced earlier this afternoon, Bennett signed a contract with the Wiltshire club on-loan from Bristol Rovers until the end of the season.

With over 350 EFL appearances and a League Two Championship title to his name at the age of just 28, Bennett adds a wealth of much-needed experience to Swindon’s current squad.

Establishing his career as a wide midfielder, Bennett’s arrival provides Swindon’s existing squad with more creativity and flair; something that Wellens has insisted was missing from his current crop of players.

After a manic morning that saw Bennett seal his move to SN1, Cameron McGilp became Swindon’s eighth signing of the mid-season transfer window just hours later.

Signing on an initial two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee from Birmingham City, the Scottish-born Australian midfielder joins an already crowded Town midfield that will see the youngster compete with the likes of Micahel Doughty, Jak McCourt, and James Dunne for a starting spot.

Speaking to the clubs official website following the move, the 20-year-old said:

“When Swindon came in, they’re a big club so I didn’t have any hesitation to come down. Massimo Luongo was here a couple of years ago so I knew a bit about the club just from following him from back in Australia.

“My Dad and Mum are from Reading so know about the club and said it was a good place to be. I’ve been really impressed with the stadium and the facilities,” he said.
