Wellens aims for final signing before Deadline Day finale

SWINDON TOWN manager Richie Wellens revealed the need to try and find balance within his current squad as the January transfer window looms shut.

Speaking following the weekend's loss against Crawley Town, Wellens admitted that he was aiming to add creativity to his side.

“When teams come banking I need that one clever player who can move and take their man on in one v ones,” said Wellens.

“I’m trying, I’m trying [to sign a creative player] but we all know that creative players and especially strikers they cost a lot of money.

“At this moment we’re not really able to pay the likes of the Lincoln’s [Lincoln City] and the Bury’s so you have to try and be a little bit patient.” He said.

“As the transfer window ticks on, normal players become cheaper because obviously, the clubs are desperate to get them out,” added Wellens.

But whilst keen to obtain the signature of a seventh player this current transfer window, Wellens explained that departures would be equally required in order to balance the books,

“We believe Sol Pryce will be going on a youth loan so we can call him back immediately at any time to Braintree and Jordan Edwards has gone to Marlowe,” said Wellens.

“But financially those moves are not really making any difference so we need to get a couple of the players that are here out for a decent amount to free up some money,” added the manager.
