Swindon Town complete the signing of Chris Robertson

Chris Robertson has become Swindon Town's first signing of the summer.

Robertson, 30, was most recently at AFC Wimbledon, where he made 13 outings for the Dons, scoring one goal.

The Dundee-born defender, who can play in the centre or on the right of defence has also spent time at Sheffield United, Preston North End and Port Vale, among others.

He began his career at the Blades in 2005 before moving on to Torquay United where he made a total of 179 appearances across the National League and League Two before moving to League One Preston in 2011, where he spent two years.

Robertson then transferred to Port Vale, in League One, and was there for a further two years and he made 61 appearances for the Valiants, scoring three goals before a one-year stint at SPL outfit Ross County.

He returned to England in 2016 to sign for Wimbledon, but became a free agent this summer.

Speaking to the Swindon Town website, Robertson said: “I’m delighted to be here.

“It is a great challenge now to get Swindon back into League One, I’m excited about it and I’m raring to go.

“The way the gaffer and the assistant were both talking to me attracted me here, they were both eager and raring to go.

“They’ve got a game-plan of what they want to do with this football club and I liked their positivity.

“The club went through a bad spell last season so it is about trying to rectify that and hopefully bounce straight back to League One.”

Boss David Flitcroft added:

“When we interviewed Chris and when we looked at his career, he’s a solid character and he wants to move his family down here.

“All the other players we are speaking to are all of a similar ilk and they want to do that, commit to Swindon and they want to commit to our vision that we’ve set out on and off the field, which is very important to me.

“Chris has got great experience that we certainly need and the younger players around him will benefit from that.

“Chris has joined us and I’m delighted he’s come in. He has got the profile of a centre-half that I was looking for.”

Swindon Town have not yet revealed the contract length of Robertson.
