PREVIEW: Swindon Town v Stevenage

SWINDON TOWN host Stevenage at the County Ground on Tuesday night as Richie Wellens' side look to put an end to their run of poor form. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi previews the clash.

Defeat to Crewe last time out condemned Swindon to five games without a win and pressure is building on Wellens and his squad to rediscover their early season form.

Opponents Stevenage sit bottom of the Football League and had to wait until October 12th for their first League Two win of the season, but an encouraging draw against Port Vale last time out has seen Boro take four points from their last two games.

Town, on the other hand, have suffered several setbacks in the last few weeks in terms of results and injuries. Captain Dion Conroy has been ruled out for six months, and his presence looks to be missed with Swindon failing to register a clean sheet or a win since his absence.

Swindon have been leaking too many goals in recent weeks, leaving the Robins with the second-worst defensive record in the top half, and they will have a job on their hands to keep the duo of Kurtis Guthrie and Jason Cowley quiet.

After notching 11 goals in League Two last season, Guthrie has managed to bag five goals so far this campaign - his latest being from the penalty spot against Port Vale last Saturday.

Jason Cowley has been on fire since Mark Sampson's arrival, and the 24-year-old has netted three goals in his last five outings for Boro.

While Swindon's defending has left a lot to be desired recently, Town do have a potent strike-force and posses League Two's top goalscorer with Eoin Doyle who has managed to notch an impressive nine goals so far.

Jerry Yates has also scored a respectable six goals, and if the two can click on Tuesday night, Stevenage may be in for a long night.

However, Town's home form has been a cause for concern with Wellens' side only managing to pick up ten points from a possible 21 at the County Ground this season.

Teams have been able to come to SN1 and record fairly comfortable wins - Newport and Colchester both ran out easy 2-0 and 3-0 winners respectively at the County Ground earlier in the season.

Wellens has stressed the importance of winning at home if his side are to challenge for promotion, but they've not managed a win at the County Ground since a 3-0 win over Macclesfield in mid-September.

Stevenage are yet to win on their travels this season, but they have taken a point in four of their seven away games in League Two this season, proving that they are at least starting to become harder to beat.

Town are yet to win in October, and a reaction is needed following a run of form which has seen Swindon pick up just one point from their last four league games. Stevenage presents the perfect opportunity to build some momentum, and close the gap on the top-three, but Boro will certainly be no pushovers as they look to build some momentum of their own.
