Doyle relishing chance to lift title on home soil

JASON DOYLE is targeting lifting the Great Britain Premiership league title on home soil tonight as the Swindon Robins take on the Ipswich Witches in the second-leg of the grand final. Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker spoke to the Robins skipper ahead of the clash.

A terrific performance at the Foxhall Stadium on Tuesday evening sees Swindon head into tonight's fixture with an eight-point aggregate lead. Doyle, however, won't be taking this for granted.

"It's nice [to have the lead] but i've been in many finals where we've had an even higher lead and still lost," said Doyle.

"I'm going to sit the boys down, especially the younger ones, and tell then it's not over till the fat lady sings.

"I think it's going to be a very tough match at Swindon and hopefully we can get off to a good start," he said.

Leading Swindon's title charge from the front, Doyle has established himself as the perfect captain with his elite-level experience allowing him to help his teammates both on-track and in the pits.

And Doyle praised his fellow Swindon riders insisting it has been a pleasure to ride with them this season.

"[I enjoy being captain] when they listen to me," joked Doyle.

"We've got a good team and they all listen when were on-track and in the pits.

"It's always nice to have these guys behind me throughout the season.

"It's a pleasure to work with all of these boys and hopefully we can lift the title in Swindon on Thursday," he said.

Lifting the tile twice in recent years, 2012 and 2017, Swindon are now on the verge of becoming triple league champions in the space of seven years.

But the club are yet to lift the title on home soil and Doyle said the riders are relishing the chance of being crowned champions in front of a packed Abbey Stadium.

"That's the main aim [to lift the title at Swindon], he said.

"We haven't won a league title at home, we've always won it away so it will be nice to do it.

"We want to win the league in front of the home fans, and pick up the trophy for them, the Russell's and everyone involved," said Doyle.
