PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Oldham Athletic v Swindon Town

Good morning and welcome to another Friday morning Swindon Town press conference ahead of Swindon's trip to Oldham Athletic in League Two tomorrow. Join Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker from 8.25am as he speaks to Swindon Town Head Coach, Ben Garner, to preview the fixture.

8:57AM

That concludes today's press conference. We will have a full write-up of all the key quotes shortly.

8:57AM

Garner on fitting in attacking players:

"We have a really talented squad with lots of great personalities and there are a lot of players pushing to get in the team. It's the balance of finding a system that suits us and then picking the players for that. The temptation sometimes can be getting all your strongest players into the team and it then doesn't work. Over the coming months now the squad will be really important. As the season goes on we will be able to rotate more without affecting the system."

8:55AM

Garner on players social media:

"I don't use social media and again it's a personal decision. I don't think we as a club can say what you can and can't do in your personal life. What we can do is advise and educate and try to help the players to understand their responsibilities to the club and in general. In society you can't dictate to people what they can and can't do but as a club we want to educate and support as best as we can. If it ever became a problem then we would look to intervene and help as best as we can. I want players to make their own decisions in life in what they do and don't do but with the understanding what their job and playing for this club brings."

8:52AM

Garner on lack of strikers:

"I think we have got players who could've had more goals than what they have and that for me is a positive. Tyreece Simpson has got into positions to score goals and Harry McKirdy, Mitchell-Lawson, and Alex Gilbert have done the same. As long as we are getting into those positions then I'm fine because over a season they will go in and we are constantly working on timing, movement, and finishing.

I expect those players to improve in terms of game understanding and finishing and we have certainly had games where we could score more. We are scoring more and have to make sure we do that without coming loose defensively."

8:49AM

Garner on developing different systems:

"We've played in different ways this season in different formations and we adapt to how we think we can win each game. What is consistent is the way we play and that won't change. The principles of how we play won't alter but we have got a lot right this season and last week, unfortunately, we didn't and that was on me."

8:41AM

Garner on Oldham expectations:

"There hasn't been a pattern to their play but they are certainly capable of passing the ball well and they have some creative players in forward areas. We have prepared for all eventualities and it has been a good week. We don't pay attention to what is happening outside the football pitch at any club, we put all our focus on the pitch. I don't like to see any club facing financial difficulties."

8:39AM

Garner on Bradford defeat:

"We weren't productive enough with the ball. We had a lot of possession but we didn't do enough with it. They had too many counter-attacks and a lot of that was on me. I always review myself first and I got the team balance wrong last week. They played a shape all season that we prepared for and then they came and played a new formation which few our game plan out a little bit. When they scored there were grey areas in our game where we hadn't played that system before."

8:37AM

Garner on Oldham:

"They have been mixed with their play and there have been games where they have been more direct and they seem quite settled with their system. In recent weeks they have been positive with their results and we know this is a tough game but we go there full of confidence. Our away form has been fantastic and we want to continue with that. We take confidence from the preparation we have done and the players are in a really good mindset but allows us to go there to attack the game."

8:35AM

Garner on travel to Oldham:

"We will train here and then travel, hopefully the traffic will be ok. We travel up to Oldham tomorrow. The players like to play a bit of cards but the popular game now is Uno. There is a bit of music and as long as the players are relaxed we are happy with that."

8:34AM

Garner on injuries:

"Dion Conroy is fine and available. We have one or two players who we have to make a call on but there will be some big decisions on team selection this week and some players will have to be left out."

8:34AM

Garner on week's training:

"It has been a very good weeks training and we are very happy with it. We always prep for the opposition and work on the specifics of the game. We do a lot of team work but also do a lot of individual work."
