PLAYER RATINGS: SWINDON TOWN 0-4 CARLISLE UNITED

Richie Wellens was on the losing end of a four-nil drumming as Carlisle United left The County Ground with three points as Swindon Town slumped to 18th in the League Two table. TotalSport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the defeat.

GK: Lawrence Vigouroux (6)

Distributed the ball well to get Swindon moving up field but could’ve done very little to stop Carlisle’s well-taken goals.

RCB: Luke Woolfenden (6)

Played on the right of a back three and was one of the only Swindon players who can be marginally happy with their performance. Stayed in his position well and won aerial duels when required to do so.

CB: Sid Nelson (5)

A poor display from Sid Nelson who was committed till the very end but lapses in attention were too frequent. Appeared unorganised and some risky passing put Town on the back foot. Must improve for next week’s game against Port Vale.

LCB: Dion Conroy (4)

Was at fault for the first goal after stepping out of position to try and shut down the attack and too often found himself struggling to deal with the pace of Carlisle’s attack. Played some good balls out from the back but was ill-disciplined in defence.

CDM: Matty Taylor (5)

Positioned in central midfield, Matty Taylor endured a mixed game with few positives and too many negatives.

Produced some brilliant balls into the box that should’ve been tapped into the back of the net, but didn’t have the legs in the centre of the park to dictate the tempo of the game.

CM: James Dunne (N/A)

Withdrew early on due to a personal emergency. We wish James the best of luck with whatever the issue may be.

LWB: Ellis Iandolo (6)

Stationed at wing-back, Iandolo was creative when going forward but absent when defending.

Had a golden opportunity to equalise for Swindon on the stroke of half-time but somehow managed to miss the ball flashing across the face of Carlisle’s goal. Faded in the second half, as did many of his teammates.

RM: Steven Alzate (5)

Having performed well in recent matches, Alzate offered very little to Swindon’s attack today. Tried to get the ball moving quickly with some interchanging passing but lacked the quality needed in the final third.

Needed support in midfield but was often isolated and struggling to create.

RWB: Jermaine McGlashan (6)

A great first half saw McGlashan link up well with Woolfenden on the right wing as the attacker delivered dangerous crosses into the opposition's area.

Was momentarily through on goal after darting in behind Carlisle’s defence and latching onto a Nelson long ball in the 32nd minute that eventually came to nothing. Was a creative influence but struggled with his defensive duties and dwindled in the second half.

LW: Keshi Anderson (5)

Glimpses of creativity saw Anderson find gaps in the backline of the visitors but frustration crept into his game as the match went on. Given the licence to free roam, Anderson pooped up in various positions but at times took too long on the ball when quick play was needed. Linked up well with McGlashan at times but must add quality to his game.

ST: Elijah Adebayo (4)

Given the chance to start in his favoured position through the middle but had little impact on the match. Got into good positions in the games opening exchanges but a poor touch too often let him down.

Is clearly low on confidence after not scoring in eleven games and a rest on the bench seems long overdue.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

CM: Martin Smith (5)

Introduced to the match early on for Dunne but appeared non-existent in large parts of the game. Didn’t appear to want to take risks to try and get Swindon on the front foot and added little to Town’s midfield.

ST: Scott Twine (N/A)

Didn’t have enough time to showcase his talent but was eager to get the ball and tried to test Carlisle’s goalkeeper from long range with a brilliant effort in the game’s dying moments. A good substitute performance in difficult circumstances.

RB: Kyle Knoyle (N/A)

Brought on with twenty minutes left and helped sure up Swindon’s defence, but the damage was already done when he was introduced off the bench.
