No excuses for Robins' recent performances, says Nielsen

A disappointing defeat for the Swindon Robins on Thursday evening saw them fall to Leicester Lions by just four points with a score of 43-47. Robin’s rider Stefan Nielsen spoke to Total Sport’s Ryan Walker.

Thursdays defeat saw the Robins lose their third meeting in succession, and Nielsen was honest in defeat insisting that it isn’t good enough from his side.

“ It’s a really disappointing result for us to lose to Leicester.” Nielsen began.

“ We have to make sure we are winning these home meetings and tonight we didn’t do that.

“ There is no excuses for this loss and we just have to improve and make sure we start winning meetings again.” He added.

Two losses against the Poole Pirates prior to Thursday’s meeting was a defeat hard to take for the Swindon riders and Nielsen agreed that confidence might have been an issue coming into the matchup against Leicester.

“ Those two defeats might of affected confidence levels coming into this meeting.” Nielsen stated.

“ It’s never nice to be beaten home and away by the same team and Poole are a strong team all the way through.

“ And Leicester were strong tonight, especially by bringing in Brady Kurtz as a guest reserve who almost scored a maximum tonight.” He said.

Saturday gives the Swindon Robins the perfect chance for payback as Rossiter’s men travel to Leicester’s Beaumont Park stadium. And Nielsen is confident of his side turning things around.

“ Yes I’m confident of a comeback against Leicester and see no reason why we can’t get the win on Saturday.” Nielsen explained.

“ We can all go there and do a job. It’s the same track for everyone and I honestly don’t see things being harder than tonight.

“ We just need to go there and do the business.” He added.

Although a tough night for fellow riders, Nielsen rode well to score 6+2. And after a difficult start to his Swindon career, he is extremely glad to be putting in more consistent and high scoring performances.

“ It’s been a strange one for me so far this season.” Nielsen admitted.

“ I’m feeling a lot more confident on the bike and am really starting to enjoy my performances on the bike.

“ I’m feeling really good but a lot of that is also down to the stuff that has been going on behind the scenes.

“ I’ve got a good mechanical crew behind me now and my family is also really supportive in helping me out a lot.” He noted.

“ I’ve been riding the bike four or five times a week over the last month and that really has helped me get dialled into racing again.

“ It was a slow start but I’m getting there now and have just got to keep improving and picking up points.” Nielsen finished.
