MORRIS: 'WE SHOULD BE WINNING EVERY HOME MEETING.'

In a repeat of last seasons premiership grand final, the Swindon Robins ensured another three league points with a resounding 51-39 win over the Wolverhampton Wolves.
TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker got the thoughts of Swindon Captain Nick Morris following the racing.

Two away losses earlier in the week made Thursday’s result all the more important, and Nick Morris highlighted how significant it was to get the win.

“We just had to keep doing what we’ve been doing and it was good to get the win tonight,” said Morris.

“We can’t win every meeting but I know a lot of people expect us too.

“We’ve been beating teams here all season and tonight was another example of that,” he said.

Unbeaten at home from four meetings this season makes the Abbey Stadium a daunting place to race for visiting teams. And following the result the Swindon skipper stated every home meeting should be a win for the Robins.

“We should be winning every home meeting and there is no excuses why we shouldn’t,” said Morris.

“It’s a really good team that we have here and we should be able to pick up points away every now and then.

“Speedway is a funny game and you never know what’s going to happen.

“All of us keep doing our best and we want to keep winning,” he said.

Thursday’s result marked a return to the form so frequently associated with Morris, after he failed to score double figures in his last two away meetings.

But despite a tough week, the Australian stated he has been happy with his consistency over the last two seasons.

“I do what I always do and that is to try and win as many races as possible,” said Morris.

“I have had a couple of average meetings but that happens.

“Last year and this year I have been pretty consistent and at times every rider will have a couple of average meetings.

“I’m riding well, scoring consistent points, and tonight we got the win,” he said.

Jason Doyle’s winter departure saw Morris chosen to take over the team’s captaincy role. And the new skipper admitted it was an easy role to take on with such a great side supporting him.

“I’m enjoying being Captain but all the boys get on so well and are helping each other,” he said.

“I’m the Captain and I’ve got that label but I don’t think of it like that.

“We all support each other and having that positivity in the pits really helps the riders.

“Everyone is really relaxed together in the pits which is great, but once we put our helmets on we know we have a job to do,” added Morris.
