ROSSITER GRATEFUL FOR FANS TURNOUT

ALUN ROSSITER couldn’t hide his delight after the Swindon Robins were victorious over the Poole Pirates on Monday evening’s bank holiday clash. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the team manger following the win.

After suffering their first defeat of the season, away to King’s Lynn Stars in their last outing, Rossiter was eager to get back to winning ways and although it was close at times, the manager admits he was confident of getting the win.

“ It was close, but I always feel we come on stronger in meetings with the partnerships that we have.” Began Rossiter.

“ Even though the scores were tied after heat eight, I still felt confident of pulling away and getting the victory.

“ All the boys are doing their bit, we had a bad night down at King’s Lynn but you can’t win them all.

“ I’m happy with the way things are going and it’s great to be getting points on the board now instead of chasing for points come August.” He said.

With the absence of teams such as Oxford and Reading from British speedway, the Poole Pirates have become Swindon’s most local derby. And Rossiter was keen to highlight the competiveness between the two clubs.

“ It’s always good to beat Poole.” Stated Rossiter.

“ Matt Ford is a winner, I’m a winner and both teams want to be successful so there is always going to be competiveness.

“ I’ve got close ties to Poole with it being the club that I spent most of my career at after being sold by Swindon.” He added.

“ I won three championship trophies down there along with a couple of league clubs as well.” He said.

A packed Abbey Stadium helped cheer to Wiltshire outfit to victory, and although delighted with the turnout, Rossiter insists the team need a big show of support every week.

“ I want Swindon fans to be proud of the club, and the only way we can do that is by getting people through the turnstiles.” Explained the manager.

“ The crowd was great tonight, and we need these supporters to come and cheer the team on every week.

“ The club can’t survive without the fans, and you seen how much the riders rose to the occasion in front of a big crowd as well.

“ All the boys rode really well and it was great to hear the support behind them.” Finished Rossiter.
