Match report: Swindon Town 4-1 Supermarine FC

Swindon Town came from behind against Supermarine to win 4-1, as four second half goals earned them victory in their last pre-season match. Scott Twine scored a brace and Michael Doughty put himself on the score sheet as Town eventually dominated proceedings at The Webbswood Stadium. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker gives his report on the action.

Supermarine were the better of two sides in the first half, as the home team created the more dangerous of chances having a shot on goal within the first five minutes. Swindon dominated possession early on with new signing Toumani Diagouraga linking play through the middle and Joe Romanski finding space down the left hand-side early on. Unfortunately with no end product.

A lack of goal-scoring opportunities in the opening exchanges led to a dull spectacle for those attending before the visitors were rewarded with a penalty in the 20thminute as trialist Fortune was brought down in the box. Scott Twine blasted the penalty over the bar.

Swindon seemed unorganised following their wasted opportunity and it was Supermarine who would eventually open the scoring in the 25thminute as Joe Selmon twisted his way through a disorganised Town defence to put the ball past McCormick. The goal would be Supermarines only goal of the game as the hosts went in at half time with a narrow lead.

Swindon started the second half full of energy, playing the more positive attacking football as Jak McCourt was influential in picking up the pace in the middle of the field. Town would eventually get their equaliser in the 52ndminute as Supermarine’s Matt Coop put the ball in the back of his net following a Swindon corner.

Swindon kept the pressure firmly on following their goal and Michael Doughty flipped the game on it’s head as his shot trickled into the bottom right of the goal to make it 1-2 on the night. Phil Brown’s side kept the tempo high and as Supermarine struggled to keep up with the pace of the match as they played erratic football, it was only a matter of time before Swindon extended their lead. Scott Twine making amends for his missed penalty to make it 3-1 in the 75thminute.

Lacking in both fitness and confidence led to sloppy mistakes at the back from Supermarine and Twine bagged his brace just five minutes later stepping in from the left hand side to rocket a shot past the host’s keeper from outside the box.

Town kept possession well minimising any threats from their opposition as they looked to see out the game, with Marines best chance to get another goal coming in the 85thminute as Doughty saw yellow for his foul on the edge of his box. The home side would shoot over and the whistle would blow just minutes later as Swindon Town left The Webbswood Stadium with a victory to go into the new season with.
