Kasim Bound For The Premier League?

Swindon Town playmaker Yaser Kasim is being monitored by Premier League clubs, according to Robins' chairman Lee Power.

The Iraq international, renowned for his flair in the middle of the park alongside with a strong passing range, has experienced an indifferent season so far during the 2015/16 campaign.

The previous 2014/15 season saw Kasim earn widespread plaudits for his commanding presence in the Town midfield, while his international form saw the number eight scoop the accolade of Iraq player of the year 2015. The year ended with Kasim also being nominated as best Arabic athlete 2015.

The 24-year-old sees his current deal at the County Ground come to an end in the summer, meaning any offer to arrive at the Robins' doorstep this January would have to be looked at carefully.

Speaking to BBC radio Wiltshire, chairman Lee Power confirmed the Iraq man was attracting interest from the country's top league, albeit somewhat to his surprise.

"It is surprising but we’ve had Premier League interest in Yaser, believe it or not," said Power.

“There has been no offers at all, but we’ve had strong Premier League interest from one club and we’ll see where that takes us - we’ll wait and see what happens with that one," he added.

Kasim began his youth career with Tottenham Hotspur, but moved on to Brighton and Hove Albion after failing to make the grade. Intermittent loan spells with Luton Town and Macclesfield were to follow before the central midfielder secured a free transfer move to Swindon Town in August 2013.

The number eight is understood to be considering his options elsewhere, after seeing a move to the middle east fall through in the summer.
