Williams: 'I believe we are the best team in the league'
Jonny Williams has stated he believes Swindon are the best team in League Two and deserves to be higher up the table following Town’s home win over Barrow. Total Sport Swindon’s Joe Acklam spoke to the Wales international.
Swindon managed to escape with three points despite a late scare against Barrow at the weekend as Louis Reed scored in the 85th minute to move Town back into the play-off places with just one game to play.
Speaking following Swindon’s third consecutive victory, the midfielder feels that on their day Swindon are without comparison in the division and should have picked up many more points than the 74 they have.
Williams said: “These last few games, the fans have really drove us on and they've been brilliant all season, hopefully we can repay them and get one last game.
“But it is frustrating because you look over the season, we have thrown away so many points.
“I believe we're the best team in the league, but we haven't been consistent enough and we are still in with a shout of promotion and we can finish with four wins in a row going into the playoffs.
“I always remain confident in the team and myself that we can win any game. In fact, I think if we did manage to get up I think we would do well again, with this team.
“We've lost so many good players and we've missed important players at key times, and had they stayed fit who knows we might have been in a different position.”
Williams also said that he was revelling in being able to play in his preferred central midfield role on a regular basis under Ben Garner.
He said: “I haven't always played centrally throughout my career, I've been on the wing at times and I think my most effective position has been in the middle next to Reed any in the defensive side as well.
“I knew I would enjoy playing under the manager, I can come deep, get on the ball and link attacks and get the wide players on the ball.
“It's not all about me it's about the team and if I can score in assists it's a bonus, and if you win I'm just as happy to be a part of it.
“It's great playing with Reed because you know he is going either find you in the pocket or find the wide men and one then you're pretty much in the box.”
