County Ground to Host Event to Support Disabled People and their Families

A free event to raise awareness of the services and help available to disabled people will be held at the County Ground.

The Mobility Fayre 2015 is in its third year and is being organised by Swindon Borough Council in partnership with Swindon Equality and Access Group.

Aimed at disabled people and their family and friends, the mobility fair will take place on Saturday, 27 June between 10am and 3pm in the Legends Lounge at the County Ground.

The event will see around 40 exhibitors give advice and help on a range of physical and mental issues as well as information on mobility and safety considerations.

Local suppliers of mobility aids and adapted cycles will be in attendance along with Shopmobility. The event will also feature community health and safety teams, free sight and hearing tests from Specsavers and advice from local disability forums and groups.

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson will also be in attendance in his role as Minister for Disabled People.

Cllr Dale Heenan, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainability and Transport, said: “Events such as the Mobility Fayre are a great way to showcase the services that are available to disabled people and their families. We had some really positive feedback from last year’s event and I’m sure with so many exhibitors this year will be no different.

“One of our local MPs is the Minister for Disabled People so it’s great to see him attending and he will hear for himself the excellent work that takes place, but also the challenges local disabled residents faces on mobility issues. As the Minister, he is perfectly placed to make practical change happen.”
