Total Swindon's Highlights of 2016

As December draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to look back at what a year 2016 was. There was certainly lots to get excited about and lots to remember. Here are our highlights!

Highlight: Swindon turns 175 years old

About: It's official, Swindon was born as a railway town 175 years ago in 1841. A whole year of events was planned by Swindon175 to celebrate the landmark year, as well as shining a light on our heritage and where Swindon goes from here.

Highlight: Better Extreme Trampoline Park opens.

About: A £2million development of the Link Centre opened including brand new foam pits, battle beams, and extreme dodgeball, as well as hosting exercise classes and toddler bounce sessions. For more information or to book a session, click here.

Highlight: National Apprenticeship Week and 2016 Apprenticeship Awards

About: We firmly support the use of apprentices at Total, one of our marketing team is a graduated apprentice and we've just taken on another digital content apprentice. It's not wonder then that we were all over National Apprenticeship Week and the Apprenticeship Awards. Re-read our apprentice interviews here and the coverage of the Awards here

Highlight: Britain votes to leave the European Union.

About: A nation was divided as the EU Referendum offered an 'in' or 'out' vote on our inclusion in the European Union. As we won't know the true implications of the decision to leave for years to come, luckily we had some expert advice from BusinessWestThrings and Banks BHG.

Highlight: Swindon's Wheels of Pressed Steel around Magic Roundabout

About: Swindon turned 175 in 2016, and the MINI plant (previously Pressed Steel) also celebrated 60 years of car panel production in the town. 60 cars both modern and classic took part in a parade around the iconic Swindon landmark.

Highlight: Team Total complete Tough Mudder

About: It's becoming a bit of a tradition, but Total took another Team of manics to complete Tough Mudder. A properly fun but testing obstacle course over 13km including ice tank jumps, barbed wire, electric shocks, human pyramids and, of course, mud. Lots of mud!

Highlight: 'Total Guide to' continue supporting Bath Rugby

About: With the start of a new season, we once again showed our love of Bath Rugby by sponsoring Bath born-and-bred forward, Kane Palma-Newport, for the fourth season. We couldn't wish for a nicer man representing us and our team!

Highlight: Swindon Half Marathon rises from the ashes

About: After the sad news that Swindon Half Marathon would not go ahead due to lack of funds, the much-loved event was cancelled. However a comittee of people, including representatives from Total Swindon, Run, 121 Fitness and DC Injury Clinic got together to hatch a plan. Fast forward a few short months and the New Swindon Half Marathon was born. Looking to run in September 2017.
