Snapped: Swindon Mela 2013

Despite the cooler temperatures, thousands of visitors made their way to the Old Town Bowl for the 11th annual Swindon Mela. The family friendly festival showcases the diversity of South Asian arts with a variety of Indian colours, tastes, music and smells. Chairman of the Mela project Jaspal Singh Bhui and Swindon Mayor, Nick Martin kicked off the festivities with a cake-cutting ceremony before a procession from the bandstand made way for an afternoon of singing and dancing. Alongside authentic music and dance, there were plenty of activities on offer. Visitors had the opportunity to put their turban-tying skills to the test, learn how to cook easy, healthy, and authentic South Asian dishes, experiment with Henna and practice their sari tying.
