On Monday 6th August, local historian Mike Pringle launched, to much fanfare, his new book 'Swindon Remembering 1914-1918', a publication crammed with intriguing facts and accounts from Swindon during the first world war, with emphasis on the fighters, and exploration of the struggles for the people of Swindon. While the war years were undoubtedly a dark time for many people, the book celebrates the tenacity of Swindon-folk during the war, and the triumph of the human spirit. On Wednesday 8th August, the exhibition 'One Town's War' opened at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, showcasing the trials and tribulations of Swindon during the war with a whole host of photos, documents, objects and stories on display. If you missed the event on Wednesday day don't despair, for the exhibition runs until the 31st January 2015.
